Sinfonia
-
Born with the ability to translate stories into music, Joseph S. DeBeasi interviewed dozens of military men and women, and their families, to compose two special orchestral pieces for Sinfonia: Connecting the Arts & Community.
Debuted in Lakeland, Florida, in concerts arranged by Southeastern University, DeBeasi’s original works -- One More Minute and A Thousand Faces -- acknowledge the bravery, heroism and conflict of veterans, and the gratitude and angst of those left behind.
The stirring, soulful sounds, the darkness, the familiar military drumbeat of One More Minute reflect veterans’ struggles to integrate back into civilian life. A Thousand Faces showcases the pain, heartbreak and emotional trauma in a moving crescendo as family members are being told a loved one won’t be returning home.
The music stands on its own, a powerful tribute to those who defend our country, the often unsung heroes who preserve the liberties and rights we so cherish. It moved the community, evidenced by the letters written to Joseph after each concert.
The composer of the music for American Sniper has veterans / first responders / fire fighters at his heart, and he’d like to share his music with you. If you’re interested in working with Joseph DeBeasi to host a concert in your city, contact him at the contact tab above.

Commendations
-
"Joseph DeBeasi is a compassionate professional that is committed to excellence in his work and authenticity in all of his relationships. ...Without him, these events would not have been possible. Numerous letters, emails, phone calls, personal meetings, and social media comments followed, detailing the impact that Joseph had on the Central Florida community. These events underscore the personal investment and commitment to excellence that is innate in his work ethic and his manner."
Craig Collins, dean of the College of Arts & Media, Southeastern University -
"On March 20, 2018, I heard “Returning Home” for the first time as I stood in front of the orchestra. The story it told, in part, is the story of my father returning home from a year in Thailand when I was a young girl. ...The music is a reflection of that moment but it's also the story of my family and our home. My parents raised six children while my father served for over 20 years as an Army officer. We moved often, leaving friends and familiar places many times, yet we never lost our sense of home. ..My song takes me there."
Colleen Burton, Florida state representative -
"Projects such as Sinfonia are significant in bringing awareness of military service experiences to the public in an uplifting, celebratory format that honors the spirit of service above self. ...Joseph DeBeasi and the dozens of others who make Sinfonia possible are to be congratulated on this outstanding program."
Gary Clark, retired, U.S. Air Force, and director of the Polk County Veterans Council -
"The power of music to connect people, ideas and themes is well known, but I was completely unprepared for the emotional impact this event would have on me. Your ability to take the life stories of the veterans you interviewed and then create music that captured the essence of their life journeys was honestly unlike anything I'd ever seen."
Scott Franklin, retired U.S. Navy, Lakeland city commissioner -
"In an era when attendance at military celebrations is sometimes waning, this format provides the opportunity to have non-traditional options, locally infused, which acknowledge the ultimate sacrifices made while reverently respecting each family story. I provide my highest level of accolades in considering ways for other communities to experience the rich expressions we have enjoyed from Dr. DeBeasi in Lakeland!"
Bill Mutz, mayor of Lakeland, Florida -
"Thank you for hearing the pain of our vets from the damage of war. My vet is a Vietnam veteran who suffers from PSTD and I can tell you the pain is real. Sinfonia was healing and brought tears to Phil's eyes and calmed my heart."
Wife of Phillip Guthrie, USMC -
"The college community, classical music fans and everyone who took part in the tribute met us face-to-face, thanked us for our service and verbally expressed the feelings that your magnificent compositon elicited from us all. The fact that you sincerely care for veterans was evident and your music stirred all of our hearts. The results were unforgettably heartwarming, extremely positive for us all and helped bridge the chasm that often exists between combat veterans and civilians. Thank you forever and Semper Fi."
